Our Venture patrol pulled off a narrow victory at the annual Iron Chef Edmond Competition. This year, each team was given about a 90 minute warning about what “secret ingredients” they had to incorporate into their meal.  The secret ingredients were: Tilapia, fresh rosemary, zucchini, bananas, and an orange. The judges were impressed by the creativity and outstanding flavor in the dishes prepared.  All patrols put forth an excellent meal.

The Venture patrol’s winning plate included a Tilapia fish taco with zucchini slaw, rosemary grilled new red potatoes, grilled zucchini and squash, and for dessert a banana-zucchini muffin with orange frosting.  Yummy!

Congratulations to Darren who was elected to be the SPL for the next six months.  It  was so close tonight that we had to hold a run off election. In addition, the following boys were selected as Patrol Leaders:

Blake H.

Nate G.

Conner M.

Travis B.

Darren then selected the rest of his cabinet to work with him.  This should be a great six months with all the fine young leaders stepping up to serve their troop:

Darren selected the following boys

About 25 boys from the troop and a few visitors made it out for our annual Electronics Lock-In.  This is the one time a year that we forget about the great outdoors and veg out in front of the video games all night.  Before we started up the electronics, we spent a couple of hours in the Athletic Center swimming and playing basketball.

The pizza run at around midnight and fresh hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts at 6 am finished the night off perfectly.  Sorry parents for your grumpy boys.

We will be heading back to Trapper’s Rendezvous for our January campout in 2012.  This is a huge event – over 4000 people attend each year from all accross the central United States.  It is truly a unique and fun event.  We need to sign up and pay by Dec 31st so Monday’s meeting will be the only opportunity to sign up before this deadline.  After this, the cost goes up.

Boys that have been to this in the past always want to go back again.  Don’t miss out on the fun!

The Trading Post is now open. The Trading post is being run by Zane and opens 15 minuets before every meeting. Bring you money to get treats!

We recently held a Webelos pin activity.  There were about 50 Webelos here from seven different packs and they did Showman, Engineer, or Scientist.  For Showman, they sang songs, made puppets, and held a play.  Everyone had a good time.  Here are some videos from the other pins:

November Robber’s Cave Backpacking Adventure

Troop 386 ventured to Robber’s Cave State Park for our November campout. After spending the morning exploring caves, and climbing rocks, the scouts hit the trail for an overnight backpacking adventure.
Carter R. cooks tasty bacon for breakfast.
Saturday morning, the troop prepares their packs.
Proper pack loading is essential for a successful backpacking experience.

There is a Leadership Meeting tonight for the new month. By the way there is a veterans day event at 6:30 on thursday. I hope all Scouts will be there.
Scouting for food is scheduled for Nov 12, and we still need parent volunteers to drive. Ask your parents if they are willing. See you tonight!

Freedom is never free. Thank a veteran today for risking all for us.

Last night, Darren, Daniel, Aaron and Brenner opened up the Veteran’s Day Event with a sharp flag ceremony. About a hundred spectators were present for this patriotic ceremony. Our troop was well represented with about fwenty present.

The most touching part of the ceremony was the reading of the names of 102 heroes from Oklahoma. I couldn’t keep from thinking about the life events they’ll never have – birthdays, marriage, birth of children and a million other little events. They have indeed sacrificed all for us.

Thank a veteran today!
